Password protect Word 2007

This is a simple technique on how to protect a Microsoft Word 2007 file with a password.

To password protect a Microsoft Word 2007 file,

  1. Click on the Microsoft Office Button.

  2. Click Save As.

  3. Click Tools.

  4. Click General Options.

  5. Enter the password to open or modify (one or both).

  6. Click OK.

  7. When prompted, retype your passwords to confirm them, and click OK.

  8. Click Save.

  1. Are you sure. The "Tools" button is located at the bottom left of the "Save As" dialog.

  2. Hi,

I have saved my doc as a Word 2007 file. However, my SAVE AS Dialogue Box does not have a TOOLS button, thus, I cannot access the Password Protection. Is there another way to get to this option?

    Thanks

    Gord

  4. I decided to blindly click my mouse in the bottom left hand corner and ended up clicking over the entire left hand side; nothing happened, so I simply gave up.

Today, is a different story. I missed the SAVE button in the SAVE AS Dialogue Box by a one or two millimeters to the left of the SAVE button and the MENU popped up with the Password Protection option. If you hold the mouse on this area the TOOLS word is visible and it disappears once the mouse is moved off of this area. I can send you a screen capture if you wish.

  5. It is weird. Maybe your Office 2007 installation is broken. Perhaps reinstalling it may solve the problem.
